Castle & Key

Vol 5. No.3 - Newsletter of the Clan Lockhart - Summer 1998 Castle & Key

President's Message

Our Annual meeting is fast approaching and I hope to see lots of new Lockhart faces joining our many local friends and &quotcousins" at the clan tent.

Is has been another great year for the Clan and we've seen many position advancements. Our genealogy is computerised and online, we have a wonderful new web page, and our Lending Library is accumulating more Lockhart History and genealogy books. We've accumulated lots of Lockhart photos in our Archives which we will continue to share with the membership in the &quotCastle & Key&quot.

I want to thank our hardworking 10 member Board of Directors for their efforts and support these last two years, we couldn't succeed without them. Also to our Committee Chairmen for keeping our services alive and well [the Genealogy, Lending Library, and games]. I would like to thank Deanna L Dodd for putting together this newsletter, it's a big job with over 100 copies now being mailed.

As always, it has been a pleasure to serve you all and try to unite Lockharts across the Nation. Don't forget to VOTE, and remember, spouses also get a vote.

Games open at 9:00 am Sat. Oct 10, at Anne Arundel Fairgrounds, Rt 178 General's Hwy., Crownsville [Annapolis], MD.

Hope to see you there !!!

Dolly Baker

News of Members and Announcements

Marian and Richard Lockhart went to Richmond, Williamsburg, Petersburg, Appomattox, etc. and had a wonderful time (It was their 16th wedding anniversary). Congratulations, Marian and Richard!

Thanks to James L. Lockhart, (FL) for the nice address labels for the newsletter. That's a real life-saver !!!!

Thanks to Tom Lockhart, (TX) for the brochure and games information on the Scottish Highland festival of Amarillo '98, which was held August 22nd. They had a Ceilidh [pronounced Kay Lee], genealogy, harp and gaelic language workshops, and pipe bands & games of course. Sounds like fun... any takers next year for setting up a Lockhart Clan Tent???

Thanks to Richard lockhart, (WV) for the interesting article on Folk Medicine by Peggy Fisher. It discusses home remedies & customs of &quotScotch-Irish" immigrants in WV.

Deanna L. Dodd and her daughter Elizabeth drove from Virginia to Wichita Falls, TX on Aug. 21st. After an over-night stop in jackson, TN they arrived in Wichita Falls Saturday evening the 22nd. Elizabeth is starting her graduate studies in psychology at Midwestern State University. They thought Virginia was hot but found Wichita falls sweltering!! Both mother and daughter were pleased to find Texans so friendly and very helpful. It was sad to see how much damage has been done by the long drought in Oklahoma and Texas.
