President's Message
I'm sure you have been anxiously awaiting this newsletter to learn the
results of your Ballots. The Membership voted for the Incorporation and
changing the Association's name to Clan Lockhart, Inc. We are acting on these
changes now. Most of the documents have been changed to reflect this and I'm
working on the Inc. papers. It is a lot to do, sorry my 2 finger typing method
is so slow. If any new members have not received their "Welcome
Envelopes" please let me know and I will try to get them to you shortly.
Thank you for being patient. You can let me know by Email
Dolly Baker.
We have grown a lot since our first, founding year - from our original 30
members, most of which are still with us. We all have family commitments, jobs
and numerous activities in which we are involved. It's time to think of your
free time and if you can spare some to help your Clan with any of its numerous
duties. We need a 3 person, nominating committee this year to coordinate the
paperwork for our October election of Clan Officers. And someone to help with
the newsletter - perhaps the mailing or labels portion. We love to have
articles from our members too.
Our Treasurer, Mike Lockhart has made the move finally, back to home Texas.
He will be doing some clan tents around at some of the Scottish Games and
hopefully some of you Texans can get together. I do have a computer list of the
Scottish Games in each state and phone numbers of the contact person if anyone
is interested in attending games in your areas. If you would like to hand out
Lockhart info in a clan tent - let me know - it's great fun.
I would like to let you know that the Chief, Angus Lockhart of the Lee, has
just stared a Family Society in Scotland. This is completely independent of our
association. You may contact him for futher information.
We wish you all a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!!! With New
Years right around the corner - there is an interesting Internet site with
information about Hogmanay. It has an article written by Stuart Crowther of
John O'Groats in North Scotland. It explores the many old Scottish traditions
and origins of Hogmanay.

Games Update
Anne Arundel Scottish Games, Crownsville, MD - Oct 11, 1997.
Terrific day for our Annual Meeting, beautiful weather, friends, family and
"Lockhart" cousins. What more could we ask for as we chatted over
fresh scones, smoked salmon and oatcakes. We had several new Lockhart visitors
at the tent. And later we enjoyed lunch together over genealogy records &
Lockhart history. Mike Lockhart arrived dressed in the Lockhart tartan, which
looks far better in person [on person] than in the photos. Visitors enjoyed not
only pipes & drums, sheepdog exhibitions, heavy weight Scottish athletes,
& Highland dancing, but also up-close experience with Clydesdales, shaggy
Highland cattle, Gordon Setters and Scottish Deerhounds.
The Color Guard of the United States Marine detachment from the Navy Yard
presented the colors and the Annapolis High School band played the national
anthems of America, Canada and Great Britian. Thirty members of the St. Andrews
Society of Baltimore were the escort - each carrying a flag or crest of the
major historic families of Scotland. [Didn't see a Lockhart one yet]

News of Members and Announcements
We missed Scott Parham when he didn't make it to the Annual Meeting and
found out later. That he was in the hospital having heart problems and an
angioplasty. We certainly wish him continued improvement and speedy recovery.
JoAnn and John Lee have returned from a three month summer tour in their
travel trailer. They covered 7600 miles. WOW!!!
We wish Holli Lockhart-Amos a speedy recovery from some recent
surgery.
Jim and Dottie Baker returned from their 50th wedding aniversary
cruise aboard the SS Norway with breif stops in Cork, Ireland, South Hampton,
England and Rowen, France.
Leatice Smith returned from a late September cruise to Puerto Rico, St.
Thomas and St. Maarten. A gift from her daughter and son-in-law, Stefie &
Bryant Freeman. Her first cruise [wont be the last] was a huge success and she
had a great time.
Congratulations, to Brian Baker for keeping up our Scottish
Traditions by stocking us with a winter supply of venison.
Best wishes to Leatice Smith's twin granddaughters, Abigal Selina
and Elizabeth Danielle Farley - who celebrated their second birthdays on Sept
19th.
Carrillee Collins in Fl is publishing a really neat magazine of memories

I would particularly like to thank Francis McIntosh for his extensive
